The Tide of War

Set in the not so distant future the Fleet Fighters and the Elite Squadron are protecting Earth from an attacking alien force. While the aliens seem to not be interested in taking over territory on Earth the Menarian’s are certainly interested in damaging as much of the planet as possible. Earth’s retaliation has sent their best fighter pilots and gunners to Epsilon Station, a station that is orbiting Menar. These Elite fighters are taking the fight to their enemy. Sadly as the long years of war continue, no one seems to be gaining any ground in getting the upper hand on the other. It is just death and destruction.
From the very beginning Witt feeds little tidbits of information to her readers. It begins with crazy conspiracy theories. Events happen that are all too coincidental. There are malfunctions and glitches in technology that seem too convenient. She plants seeds of doubt and gets your thoughts flowing on what is really going on within the pages of The Tide of War. I’m telling you the amount of speculation and where your thoughts will be thrown to makes this an amazing read. The wheels are constantly turning on reasoning out what is truly going on here. Once it comes out and the reasons behind it… oh my wow. It is a huge shocker and a total game changer. This book is absolutely amazing.
This first book in the Defending Epsilon series does not really fit into the male male romance niche. There is a budding romance between Kyle and Andrei. Them getting together and finding their happily ever after is not what this book is about. It is not a space opera either. The suspense is what really drives this book. The suspense is good and it will keep you entirely enthralled.
I am so pleased that this is a series and that I will get more of what is going on. The ending ties up nicely. There is not a cliffhanger but you are left knowing that the repercussions of what happens at the end will have an enormous impact on Earth and the war they have been fighting for far too long.

Not sure what this tale was: sci-fi romp without any real bedroom romps? A consipiracy?

I knew LA Witt was writing under 4 different names, but somehow I expected the same basics from her: a great tale, likable leads that I could get to know and root for, hot sex and a HEA. Well in this, I got a tale. Yup, that's about all.
I can't full review this without spoilers, but let's just say that this was not my idea of an easy tale or world to get into, especially as there could not be an introduction, else that would have given away the twist in the tale/tail. It also wasn't my idea of a romance, as all/any sex took place off page, and what there was, was mainly extra-marital. I didn't get to know either of the leads, I didn't get to care for them, I didn't believe in the supposed attraction between them, as there simply wasn't the circumstances or time for them to get to know each other. I think I had expectations of all I like in an LAW tale, and didn't get them.
From my experience of this tale, I won't be reading any more of Lori A Witt.

I love this story. Full of action, drama, more than a little loss. The pages couldn't turn fast enough.
The story is told from a few point of views--and it moves the plot along quickly. The world building was such that I felt I was in that hangar and on the space station, along with the characters. Nicely done!
