Have you ever read a book on bodybuilding or a muscle magazine that says to do 3 sets of 10 repetitions of so-and-so exercise and then wonder to yourself "what's so special of how many sets you do or number of repetitions you complete? What you really want to know is the what's, why's and how's of everything you do in your workout routine. The author's critical comments are interesting and provocative. Example - "The muscles have no brain cells, no hearing nerves, and the same goes for the smell, vision, speech and some of the other senses....." "They don't know the difference between 8 reps, 3 sets, or a Cobb salad!" He then goes on, "to develop our body to become strong, healthy, lean and sexy, we have to understand.....MUSCLE TALK!" The rest of the article is about how to judge how many reps and sets to do and when to stop. His explanation of techniques certainly should be of help to the beginner and most of the advanced strength trainees.
The book is divided into four sections: Matters concerning exercise, Your Diet, Sleep, and Hormones. In addition, he explains the importance of resting between exercise periods to allow for the healing of muscle tissue from a high intensity session. He suggests following certain on-line apps for visualizing the beginning, during, and completion of each exercise. This mode of instruction, he explains, is better than looking at a static before and after picture as it shows the tempo and time to complete each movement.
The author writes in a simple, easy to understand manner. There is some humor here and there in the subject matter and you have to read his description of The Couch Potato. It's hilarious!
At the end of the book there is the references section of five pages.
To sum up, an excellent source of information on fitness at a rock bottom price.

A GOOD READ AND EASY REFERENCE

It takes away all the excuses for improving your health from diet, exercise and just all-around awareness of a more beneficial lifestyle. It is easy to understand and refer back to specific subjects. It is full of good advice for everyone from eight to eighty and maybe beyond. After eighty I might like to have two glasses of wine per day!
I recommend it to all my couch potato friends as well as those who already follow the right path and want to "brush up" occasionally.

A fun and interesting read!

As one who cares about health and fitness but not one to read up on these things, I was pleasantly surprised to find how this book truly captured my attention. The author keeps it simple while still hitting on so many interesting topics and with a sense of humor to boot! This is an easy and interesting read as well as a good resource for a beginner as well as a more experienced fitness buff.
I definitely give it a thumbs up!
