rather disappointed

Warning: this review may seem spoilery to some, but I think you deserve to know...
This was the first book I've read by Catt Ford, and it was well on its way to a five-star rating from me until it just...ends. Very, very abruptly. I wasn't paying attention to the page numbers so when the end came I was literally stunned. So much is left unresolved between Jeff and Clay that it only felt like half a story. They have - sort of - come to a very tentative arrangement but I was left wondering if they ever come out or even manage to eventually make love. And it's the middle of the rodeo season so we don't even get a resolution to who wins the championship, or where the guys end up since they don't live near each other in the off season. I was really crushed that this story has no sequel.
Because ending it like that seems very amateurish, when clearly Ford is a good writer. Excellent descriptions, great details of the rodeo, sharp dialogue and well flesh-out characters had me totally hooked...until the horrible finish (I hesitate to even use that word, as it feels much more like a "to be continued")
So I guess I will give a guarded recommendation - this is a great story, for what we get of it. Just be prepared to have many unanswered questions and no lovemaking payoff. If you can live with that, then enjoy Ford's obvious writing talent.

My View – Story:
This book seemed a little rushed to me and then ended abruptly and I was left feeling as though I didn’t get the whole story.
Jeff and Clay are rodeo riders and are both at the top of their game leaving them fighting it out for first prize as the season progresses. They don’t get along although they haven’t tried to be friends, they seem to ruffle each other’s feathers and are each a little jealous of the other. They even argue with each other over which woman they are going to bed with for the night.
When tempers fray once again instead of the usual verbal sparring or shoving they end up kissing each other frantically. What happens when two straight boys who are enemies end up kissing? They panic, blame each other and use their avoidance skills.
Clay is much better at avoidance and denial than Jeff. He is a cowboy, a rodeo rider and he worries about what his family would say so there is just no way he can be gay. Jeff, for his part, seems more resigned to his feelings and much more open to exploring how the other man makes him feel.
As much as they try to stay away from each other neither seems able to put the brakes on. When they are together they are hot and passionate but there is a strain on becoming friends outside of the bedroom for fear of what their fellow riders will think.
It ended for me without any real closure. For all of their competitiveness you don’t find out who wins the rodeo and you are left without knowing what happens after the season finished. Do they make the leap and become a couple or was it a fling and at the end of the season they headed home to the respective lives?

Paul Morey is very easy to listen to and did a great job narrating this story.

Extreme Bull

Bull riders Jeff Stratton and Clay Harris fight over everything - from who had the best ride to who got the prettiest girl. So when Jeff kisses Clay with the same intensity he taunts him with, they're thrown for a loop. Jeff isn't gay but he can't stop thinking about that kiss, while Clay is trying to figure out how he could be straight but want Jeff so much. Can Jeff and Clay figure out what they want before they lose what they have?
Extreme Bull is a tender love story hidden beneath the hard exterior of the bull riding circuit. Aside from having two hot cowboys roughing it up in the sheets, Extreme Bull is the perfect story about first times. Everything that happens between Jeff and Clay, from their competiveness on the circuit, to their fumbling in the trailer, is sexy and passionate. The writing and characterization in Extreme Bull are excellent, making Jeff and Clay's relationship realistic and intense. The ending is a bit abrupt and left me wanting more.
