Laura Lamont is a qualified nutritional therapist. She runs the diet coaching clinic Glow Nutrition Zero Foods in London, where she advises clients on healthy eating and weight loss. She has contributed to several lifestyle magazines including Woman, and is a diet specialist for Natural Health magazine. Laura also launched "Zero Noodles", a healthy low-calorie, highfiber alternative to pasta, which sells in outlets throughout the UK. The author lives in UK.

A well written and informative Low-Carb book

This book has turned into a great resource for me! I tried going completely carb free and could not maintain it. So this book has helped a lot as I now eat my carbs at breakfast, which prevents me from being ravenous by 11AM. The rest of my day is carb free which I am able to follow.
I love the color coded meal plans, they are so easy to understand. The author also provides a whole page of "free foods" that help prevent that overwhelming hunger.
Also included are wonderful recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For those non diabetics there is also a dessert section.

Well Presented with Great Diet Information and Recipes

The new Low-Carb Diet Cookbook is a well presented, easy to follow and use cookbook to help with those who are doing low-carb diets. Although the book presents a low carb plan by color coding food types, that system was oddly not used for the actual recipes themselves. As well, although there is a wide variety of dishes, quite a few were exotic, required extensive preparation, or harder to find/not in your pantry ingredients.
The book is broken down as follows: the diet, breakfast recipes, lunch recipes, dinner recipes, desserts, and ingredient index. About 40 pages in the beginning discuss the benefits and information about a low carb diet. I was pleased to see that a lot of the latest findings/research was in there, debunking a lot of diet myths. The recipes follow and are broken down by food type (e.g., grains for breakfast or seafood for lunch).
The recipes are cleanly presented and, though too many are lacking images, easy to follow with clear directions and ingredients (though I wish the ingredients had bullet points to make it easier to read them). Admittedly, for me personally, I felt the recipes were a bit too 'haute cuisine' rather than re imagining of the comfort food that did most of us in, weight wise. If I had cuisine tastes, I probably wouldn't have a weight problem.
To improve the book and make it easier to use, I would have liked to see more labels on the recipes. E.g., a color coded system for recipes that are quick on prep time vs longer cooking (or even ordering the recipes by prep time), a different system for recipes that require specific/rarer ingredient shopping trips beforehand as opposed to those with stock ingredients in most pantries, and many more pictures. Only a few recipes have pictures and so we have to read recipe ideas rather than being able to quickly scan through pictures to choose the one we want for that meal.
In all, although the recipes didn't appeal to my tastes, this is a well presented book with good diet information.

I love this book! As a low-carb newbie, this is a lifesaver!

My husband and I are new to the low-carb movement, mostly to cut back on processed foods and sugar. This book has been such a great resource for me! My favorite rule is "NO CARBS AFTER BREAKFAST" because to me, breakfast without carbs is just plain awful. After about 3 days, I couldn't eat another egg! This plan is so much more sustainable!
The color coded meal plan is easy to understand, and with a whole page of "free foods" I know I won't get hungry. Best of all, this book includes fabulous recipes for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and DESSERTS! That means I can make a healthy treat for us without feeling like I'm blowing it.
The "Rich Chicken & Almond Tagine" recipe is delicious. Another favorite is the "Apple Almond Crumble." Real comfort food! Thank you Ms. Lamont! For more see my blog at www.abeautifullittlelife.com.
