A wonderful book !

This book is, in a word, wonderful. The author uses her own real-life experiences, along with perfectly-selected and well-explained bible passages, to discuss and clarify such difficult concepts as wisdom, hope, honesty, courage, purpose, love, and many more. This book is full of relevant, useful life guidance, encouraging all of us to develop ourselves and our faith. It gives us insight into who we are and how our lives somehow fit into a much larger picture.
The very first chapter recounts a story of a little girl who asks her father to dance with her in the middle of a crowded coffee shop. As the father (a police officer in full uniform) stands and dances with his daughter, the story tells us, "For that moment, time slowed down a bit. This was no longer just a coffee shop. This was a ball for a princess and her prince." Then Rev. Collins reminds us that "our life is made of moments...we are only given a certain number of moments and we want to make the most of them...the choices we make will influence not only the direction of our lives but how we experience the moments that make up our days." Then she encourages us with this: "Each day, each minute, offers a choice."
The stories in this book are worth reading and re-reading and re-reading again. You will find yourself sometimes laughing out loud, sometimes moved by a poignant story, and always celebrating life. This book would make an excellent basis for a church small group, or for anyone who wants to see their faith reflected in the everyday moments of life. (I plan to order several more to give to friends.) And while this book is definitely about "finding God in the everyday", the author is never preachy or heavy-handed. Rather, the stories, bible passages, and lessons in this book are full of honesty, humility, and candor. I look forward to Rev. Collins' next book!

A Real Mom talks about finding God along the way

My Mom's Group was provided an advance copy of this book to use as our study for the year. We have really enjoyed the book. The chapters are not too long, which is really important for us busy Mamas, but also has plenty of meaning and thought to discuss. The chapters all include real-life stories that we can actually relate to, which is nice after reading some previous books where things are annoyingly perfect or downright bizarre. She brings the Bible passage into the chapter's theme and makes the story come to life so that we can understand it's relevance to our lives today. Overall, this has been a great book for encouraging us to ease up on ourselves, trust God, and find the joy, humor, and blessings in the wild ride of Motherhood. I would recommend this book for Mom's Groups and Bible studies, but also for individual women looking for a devotional to use on their own. The chapters can also be read independently, which I love since as a Mom I often have to put a book down several times before I can finish it.

Deep, funny, and insightful! Highly recommended!

This book is a rare gem. It is accessible and intelligent, funny and touching. The stories from the author's life are honest and authentic, and her unfolding of stories from the Bible are applicable to real life, while remaining faithful to the texts. This book is worth reading several times, and would make a great book for a small group Bible study.
