A simple, practical and loving guide to changing your health and lifestyle... for good!

Throw that "diet" book out the window - it's time for the anti-diet! Of all the books out there on changing your eating habits and improving your health, Return to Food one stands out for me as being a simple yet practical and LOVING guide to making gradual and realistic changes to the way we shop for, prepare and eat food. The book is all about understanding and embracing our relationship with food getting back to the basics of good, healthy, nutritious and delicious meals that help us get our weight, health and lives back on track in a positive way! The fact that Mariel Hemingway wrote the foreword in itself says a lot, but the author Sherry Strong (what a great, appropriate name!) is a food celebrity in her own right. As a food philosopher, chef and nutritionist, Sherry is passionate about sharing her philosophies and strategies to inspire us all to really WANT to make better choices about our relationship with our food and our bodies - she not only gives us the tools to get started but importantly shows us how easy it can be to maintain it - that's always the tough part, right? Sherry's gentle, loving and educational approach helped me to understand the essential basics of what is and isn't nutritional food (hint - we are NOT educated on properly by the government, health authorities, food companies or society in general, but you probably already know that) and how to make gradual changes and substitutions in ways that make me even more excited about food! The beautiful illustrations in the book (which Sherry drew herself) help explain these ideas and concepts helped me think more deeply about taking responsibility for my own health - after all, no-one else is going to do it for me! The recipes are simple, quick and easy and VERY tasty - I was amazed to discover that within 24 hours of preparing these meals I can literally see and feel the difference in my skin, energy and body. None of this has to be complicated at all - by simplifying our lives and embracing good, "real" foods and preparing them in ways that make our taste buds sing, makes our skin glow and gives us back energy we never even knew we had, we start to love ourselves, our bodies, our food and our lives even more. The author's genuine care for us, our health and our planet shines through in an authentic and honest way. This book is about truly about creating a long term relationship and love affair with food and our selves in ways that are easily achievable, inspiring, fun and life-changing. It looks beautiful on the coffee table (great conversation piece for visiting guests) and is a must in the kitchen...hmm I think I need a second copy! Thank you Sherry for simplifying food for us and moving away from the 'diet-fad' trend.... a Return to Food is really all we need.

A Practical & Positive Health Book That Encompasses More Than Just Eating

If you are interested in eating better, feeling better, and improving your overall health, I'd like to share my thoughts on a book that contains so much practical and common-sense information that it's probably going to be considered radical in a genre where fad diets are, sadly, more often the norm.
The book is called Return To Food - The Life Changing Anti-Diet by Sherry Strong, whose philosophy can be summarized in one simple question:
What if the secret to losing weight, increasing your energy and reversing disease, was to stop dieting and simply return to eating real food?
Don't be fooled by Sherry's seemingly simplistic question and the charming illustrations she shares throughout the book. Return To Food is a well-researched, well-thought-out book that not only incorporates her personal philosophies on eating, nutritional healing and holistic living, but leaves you with much food for thought.
Eating is not just about the food that we put on our plate and into our bodies: what we eat also impacts the world around us. Accordingly, Sherry tackles a diverse array of fascinating topics in this book.

I'd Rather Be At The Beach: Reviews

Like the title says, this is an anti-diet book. In this book the author gives you information on how to eat better so that you are healthier and feel better. She says “When you give the body what it needs to heal itself, it does so remarkably well”. And that means eating food from the earth.
I’ve read a lot of books on what we should be eating and how much, but this book is different. Sherry has had her own struggles with her weight and health, and wants to help others reach a healthy way of life. You can tell she did a lot of research. She writes it in a way that made it click like no other book on this subject has. She says that many so called health foods are toxic to our bodies because of the way they are made. I believe that. She also says our thoughts can be toxic or have the power to energize and protect the body. I believe that also.
The 8 chapters are The Cost Of Fast And Easy, The Lethal Recipe, Nature’s Principle, The Consumption Concept, HyperNourishment, The Universal Recipe For Healing, Love-Sweet Love and Food-Sweet Food, and The Holistic Path.
My two favorite chapters where The Universal Recipe For Healing which has sections on how to listen to your body, get quite and plug into nature as well as air, water, sleep, vegetation, movement and sunshine. I also loved the chapter The Holistic Path. It includes how to do a kitchen audit, shopping, how to set up your kitchen.
There is a bit of humor in the book too, she says “Chocolate is God’s way of saying he loves us and wants us to be happy”.
In the back of the book there are a few recipes. Some have ingredients that I’ve never seen in a regular supermarket like maca powder and dulse. I guess you could find them at a health food store. There is also a section on what you need in your pantry, freezer and fridge as well as the kitchen equipment you need to practice what’s in the book.
There are also illustrations by the author throughout the book and they are beautiful. I loved that she included them in the book.
I thought this book was fantastic and think it could help anyone make a lifestyle change to become healthier, not only in body, but also in mind and spirit.
