I dont like this edition! It is the same you can get for free and the spanish part is not complete. I want to cancel my order! It has no more than a few hours I bought but I ask for refund and cancel this bad choice.

Jane drove south to the mechanic’s shop that was owned by the Snows. She pulled close to the garage
doorway, got out, and walked to the front of her car.

“Janie?”

Jane turned her head and saw a dark-skinned man about her age wearing blue work pants, steel-toed boots, and a gray work shirt with an embroidered patch above the pocket that said RAY. Jane stepped up and hugged him. “It’s great to see you, Ray. I was afraid you would be on vacation or something.”

“No, the guys who work for me get vacations. I’m always here, like the doorknob. Got a car problem?”

“I wondered if you could do the scheduled maintenance on my car—you know, oil, filter, lube, check and replace belts and hoses—and then keep it here safe for at least a week or so.”

“I’d be glad to. You staying around here?”

“I thought I’d go on a hike, like we used to when we were kids.”

Ray Snow’s brows knitted. “You trying to find Jimmy?”

Jane looked around to see if anyone else was in earshot. She smiled and said, “Not me. That’s the police’s job. I wouldn’t want to get involved.”

“Well, that’s good. A person would have to be stupid to do that.” He whispered, “Give him my regards.”

The shark hasn't been jumped, after all

This is the eighth book in the great Jane Whitefield series, which has been running since 1995. After two decades, the author has encountered a problem inherent in such a situation: his protagonist, who is called upon to outrun, outsmart, and outfight many opponents, is aging out. There are different ways to handle this. The late Ed McBain, whose 87th Precinct series ran for nearly 60 years, stalled all his characters in their 40s and never aged them afterwards. JD Robb's In Death series, also going strong after 20 years, has each book take place a few days or weeks after the previous one, so aging will never be a problem. Thomas Perry has chosen a third method of handing the situation: he has reversed time. In the last novel, Jane was clearly in her upper 40s. Now she is back to 34, though there are some editing anomalies which belie this. It works fine for me. Jane, who has had a secret and successful career assisting people to flee danger and create new lives in safety and anonymity, is now called upon to locate someone. He's an old childhood friend who is being framed for murder. Jane would turn down this assignment, but it comes from a source she can't refuse, the eight clan mothers of her Seneca tribe. Using her experience and her Indian history and culture as a guide, Jane goes after Jimmy. He's being sought by the police as well as by the folks who framed him, and since he has no idea why he's been targeted, it's up to Jane to figure it out and keep him alive. The last book in this series was a disappointment and I was afraid it had run its course, but this one shows that the author still has his game going, and I'm looking forward to more of Jane's adventures.

I thought it would be a normal good book. Was I ever mistaken

From reading the beginning, or synopsis, I thought it would be a normal good book. Was I ever mistaken. This book starts off giving you some first class tips on how to protect yourself against people who might want to harm you. It gives you many valid security tips, and then the story really starts to move, and somehow or other, Thomas Perry does not stop the action long enough to give you a breath of fresh air. The suspense is continuing with no let up, and trying to lay the book down is futile. You immediately have to pick it up and continue with the action. So if what you want in a book is suspense, this is it. Jane Whitefield does not let you relax until the last page. You can't even skip a couple of pages to see what might happen net, because you are afraid you'll miss something important in what you temporarily skipped over. Enjoy! Once you finish, you'll definitely be loaning it out to your friends so they also can find out what true suspense is all about..

In her spare time, she does volunteer and charity work. What makes her unique is her a secret and hazardous avocation: She is a guide who helps desperate people flee from precarious situations. If necessary, she sets her clients up with forged papers so that they can start over in new locations under assumed names.

One day, Jane receives an unexpected visit from eight female clan members who represent the Seneca, her late father's Native American tribe. They urge Jane to employ her talents--she is an expert tracker and markswoman who thinks strategically and is trained in hand-to-hand combat--to assist Jimmy Sanders, her childhood friend. He is in hiding after being framed for a murder that he did not commit.

Thomas Perry has long been a favorite among thriller fans because of his well-crafted prose and dialogue, intriguing characters, engrossing plot lines, and exciting action sequences. The Whitefield books have an added dimension because of their emphasis on Jane's reverence for the Seneca traditions and customs. "A String of Beads" shows Jane at her most impressive. She uses her intellect and instincts to anticipate danger before it approaches, and then devises ways of evading or confronting her antagonists. When violence cannot be avoided, she does what is necessary to stay alive and protect those who depend on her. Some may argue that Jane is a little too good to be true; she is unselfish, generous, and incredibly proficient at the skills needed for survival. Furthermore, the villains are little more than one-dimensional thugs--and none too bright, at that. Nevertheless, Jane's fans will willingly suspend their disbelief and continue to embrace this clever, determined, and tough heroine who, time and again, persuades would-be victims to trust her with their lives. I really wasn’t expecting much when I got this book. It sounded cutesy and a bit juvenile from the back cover. I was prepared for so-so writing and a plot that was predictable. What I ended up with was a unique story that was well written and left me cheering for both the story and the author.
While many young authors have published books, few have the talent that Elliott displayed in this story. Her writing is strong, personal, and engaging. I have rarely read a début author that is so young, yet has mastered so many valuable skills as an author. I look forward to seeing many more great books in Elliott’s future.

The story was so delightful. It is not often in the romance saturated market that you find a book that is purely about a brother-sister relationship. Alec and Nikki both have struggles, and they have drifted apart, despite the fact they are an ice dancing team. The struggles that they both face felt very real, as did how they dealt with them.

This book is a contemporary book complete with people texting and using slang, and that made the book feel realistic. However, while it did feel like it was about real kids in today’s culture, it never got crude, and faith and good morals played heavily into the story. There was a little talk of boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, but it was mainly about why it isn’t a good idea when you are too young to date.

There are few books that I have enjoyed reading more this year. It was a pure delight and joy to read, and I highly recommend this for those who like books about sibling relationships, clean fiction, and contemporary stories.

Great Christian Contemporary Fiction

Disclaimer: I am a friend of the author, a beta reader, and the book formatter, but I love this book on its own merit. I would not have been so involved in the publishing of this book had I not truly believed everything I've said about it.

I first heard of this book from the author's sister and was interested, but unsure what to expect out of it. I must say, it exceeded my expectations. I don't read much contemporary fiction, generally preferring fantasy, sci-fi, and historical fiction, but Becoming Nikki is a book that easily joins my generally preferred genres. I love the ice dancing angle of the story, but Nikki's relationship with her brother Alec outshines even that. Ashley writes the ups and downs of their relationship well, and all the characters feel like real people.

I really do love the characters. Nikki is very relatable, and her friend Natalie is a fun and entertaining girl. I also really liked Dylan. He's a gentleman, which I appreciate. I don't know what to say about Alec without giving spoilers, but I both loved and hated him.

Becoming Nikki is well written, really making me feel like I was experiencing the story. I stayed up late several nights reading it, and not at all because I had agreed to beta read it. I really wanted to keep reading. I was anxious to know what happened. I also enjoyed the pop culture references, particularly the Doctor Who ones. Ashley and I are fellow Whovians. :)

There is also a faith element to the story. There is no doubt it is a Christian book. Nikki has some learning to do in the faith department. It is well executed, and not preachy.

I highly recommend Becoming Nikki to everyone. It is an excellent story, that has absolutely nothing to prevent children from reading it, with a great message and memorable characters.

Excellent debut novel!

Ashley Elliott has done an excellent job with her debut novel! Originally, I assumed it was a romance novel. But when I got it in the mail, I realized it was about siblings. Which I thought was awesome because not a lot of people write about that. I know nothing about ice dancing, but Ashley clearly did her research on it! I really enjoyed the book a lot and would highly recommend it!

A MUST READ FOR MIDDLE-AGED PREGNANCIES

45 and pregnant would have sounded a death knell a few decades ago, yet for Liz Angeles in her book of the same name, she dispels by personal experience many of the fears and myths that accompany this subject. She adds yet a more daring caveat as she delivered at home naturally w/o drugs.
It’s obvious she is unique and explorative as she legally changed her last name in homage to Los Angeles, her favorite city.
She is a very clever, humorous yet informative writer. I was unable to put it down. She includes everything a middle aged mother might want to know about getting pregnant, delivery and early childhood management. She has a light hearted , joyful delivery of all you might need to know if you are considering middle aged motherhood, and in so doing adds a great romp of a read as her humor carries all of her serious information quickly and thoroughly to her reader.

I really enjoyed reading this book because it was a real life ...

I really enjoyed reading this book because it was a real life experience on what a woman's life was like prior to getting pregnant and prior to the baby coming. Then it takes you through the entire birth experience. It made me feel like I was there with her. It also really helps illustrate that things just don't happen until the time is right. Pretty funny in some parts. Made me wish I had done more planning or research before I had my kids. I learned a lot and it was very inspiring. I think a lot of women can get a lot out of this, no matter what stage of life or pregnancy they are in.

The Ringer Is O-SO Good!

The Ringer & Again The Ringer were written in the early 20th Century by the incomparable but largely forgotten British author Edgar Wallace. The Ringer is a novel, while Again The Ringer is a neat collection of short stories about a clever criminal who is something like The Shadow, and The Ringer likes to expose criminals who prey on those who cannot defend themselves. Scotland Yard is forever after this elusive criminal, by Inspector Bliss cannot nab him because The Ringer is always a step and a thought ahead of him. Three movies have been made about this ingenious character, and I'm surprised that Hollywood doesn't revive this guy. Edgar Wallace was a prolific author, and he writes well and reads easily.

Edgar Wallace is not always PC (an understatement in case of his Africa Books), but I liked him 60 years ago and started rereading him just recently, and to my surprise, I still like him. One disadvantage: my wife got hold of the book and neglected her housewifely duties during the time it took her to read the book :-)

I don't know what I was expecting but was surprised that I really enjoyed this story. Jace & Jordan are brothers not by blood their mothers are partners, they are sperm donor babies from different donors. They grow up happy together Jace being the older. At a stage in his life Jordan who is openly gay realises that he is in love with Jace who is straight. Jordan plays the field to hide his attraction to his brother thinking that nothing will ever come of it. Danny is Jordan's best friend and has been for years, such a great guy. I won't say anymore to ruin the story.
The story goes from Jordan's POV to Jace's POV back and forth. Danny's also has POV towards the end of the story.
I didn't find this confusing I thought the author did a good job telling the story.
The cover lured me in and I wasn't disappointed. I hope there will be a sequel.

Amazing

As always author Christin Lovell shots and scores she has a way of capturing the insecurities of real life plus size women and making them (myself included) realize that we are powerful and just as sexy as any skinny women and I believe she captured that dynamic as well as touching on the racism of sexual stereotype in this book and although it was a short story I must say I've read it over and over since I've purchased it

I have never read a F/F romance but author, Christin Lovell, did an amazing job!! Everything she writes is hot and true to the heart! Even if you are not into, F/F this is still a must read!
