Awesome Read

I have never read a book or series of V.M. Black I didn't enjoy reading. The Alpha's Captive has a fast pace and is exciting and drama fill and I hated it to end. I love the way V.M. tell's her awesome stories with her vivid and imaginative writing she bring her charactors to life.

The Alpha's Captive: Freed Book6
There is one great consisted all the stories start where the other end, which just awesome. Levi and Harper are still on the run but they have decided to take the fight to Mortensen. After they took their leave of Beane. Levi thought the best way to get there was thru the mountains. Once they arrived in Maryland Levi checked them into luxury Hotel. In the mist of their planning Levi ask Harper to married him, but Harper had some conditions of her own.

The Alpha's Captive: Finale book 7

From book one to book seven this series was packed with steamy sex scenes and full of excitement. Harper has the ability to talk herself out of any situation. Levi at end kept his promises and they both would do whatever it takes for each other. At the close they got Mortensen exposed and Beane had to save the day. When Levi got shot all Harper could do was to threaten him and telI him he best not die. I found the scene on the balcony very gutsy, exciting and not what you will expect at the end. Because Veronica was determine to kill Levi or Harper or Both. This is one series you want to read.

This series ended way too soon but I enjoyed every page. I hope that we get to read about Levi and Harper in a future. It would be great to see how marriage and maybe a couple of Cubs agree with Levi and Harper.

I highly recommend this serial to shifter lovers. This is a complete serial and is a MAGNIFICENT READ.

Another fantastic cover, Levi is looking very awesome in either form :)

This is a serial novella series. You must read them in order, or you will have no idea what is going on.

Freed - Book 6
It is completely published at this time which is a good thing or I might have thrown my reader with the ending of this book (major cliffhanger which would break my kindle), but thankfully I’m reading it next… like in 5 minutes.

I really love Harper and Levi, and as much as I want to know what happens, I also don’t want it to end. I love all the action and the steamy scenes :) V.M. is awesome with the details, and I can see everything happening as I read :) I love when a story engages my imagination in my mind…don’t you :)

Finale - Book 7
This book was jam packed full of excitement and steamy sex scenes. I really love Harper’s ability to talk her way out of anything :) Both of them would do anything for each other, and I find that really sexy :) Their ability to have sex in some of the most dangerous of situations amazes me, and it’s very ballsy.

So this ended way too quickly for me, but I loved every moment. I really hope that we will get to see more of both of them in future books by V.M. because I want to know what happens next and does Harper get what she wants. V.M. is an amazing story teller and her vivid writing bring everything to life.

I highly recommend this serial to shifter lovers everywhere who enjoy serials. This serial is complete and a very enjoyable read :)

VM Black has converted me when it comes to serials. I found book one of this series months ago for free and put the series on my to get list when I got Christmas Gift cards. Well I received a copy of her series Cora's Bond and if you had told me the same writer wrote these two worlds I would have said no, but yes! The contrast in world's and characters is amazing and will not dissapoint!

This series is about Levi (werewolf) and Harper (human). It starts off with Levi on the run from having stolen something from an evil vampire. He car jacks Harper, only to find that woman is hard to get one over on and even harder to make upset/girly scream, even when she just had mind blowing sex on the hood of her carjacked car with the car jacker, who then turns into a wolf, and fights bad guys with a grenade launcher.

This book also has Chay ( I have a team Chay t shirt) who is a secondary character, but got his own book in the Taken by the Panther serial. VM Black has become one of my authors that I have on favorites and email updates so I know when a new book comes out, which is always quickly...never have to wait long! Give yourself a present and buy the escape that is VM Black's books.

Great reference, but not a book

This laminated brochure shows pictures and gives descriptions of the most common edible and poisonous plants and fruits in North America. I'll put it in with our camping supplies, as a handy reference.

I didn't realize it was just an accordian-fold brochure when I ordered it, but looking again at the description, it does mention the size. Just not enough detail to tell me it wasn't a book. It actually says "paperback" and "on the back cover" in the description.

Everyone who likes to eat greens and fruit from the outdoors should find this reference very useful and reassuring.

Great Field Guide

First off, this is by no means a fully unabridged guide to edible plants. For that you will need to get a Peterson Guide. However, if you do have a Peterson Guide at home, then read it and just carry this field guide as a reminder.

The pictures are actually drawings, but they are very good.

It even has a few common poisonous plants listed so you don't eat them by mistake.

Lamination is nice, plus the size is really good for putting in a backpack or large fanny pack.

Overall, get a good resource like Peterson for home. Study it well, but don't bring it with you. It takes up way too much room. Bring these small field guides for easy reference.

Great Resource/Reference

I live in the Northeast and was looking for a quick easy clear concise guide for edible plants that I could forage for in an SHTF.

I am familiar with several of the species that were presented already, however I wanted to have a little more reassurance. This laminated guide has clear illustrations of edible seeds, fruits, nuts, roots, leaves, as well as medicinal uses, herbal uses and also lists all the poison by contact and poison by ingestion species you have to watch out for.

Excellent resource if you are a prepper or survivalist and want to see what plants are most likely abundant in your local wilderness areas, back yard, down the street in the vacant lot or simply growing along the roadside.

I was surprised to learn that several common tough woody species can be eaten as well, if prepared correctly.

Get your tissues ready!

From page one I was hooked on this masterful piece of fiction. Paynter pulls you in and tugs your heartstrings all the way through the wonderful journey of Angie and Meryl, who fell in love in college, but circumstances shoved them apart. The books starts ten years later with each woman well on her own career path in separate parts of the country.

We're taken back and forth with these women from their present--as they get closer and closer to seeing one another again--and to their past as we learn what brought them together and was ultimately tore them apart.

I can't list the scenes that made me cry--I'd have to give away the whole book. But know that Chris Paynter has given us an incredible, loving, sweet, story that defines what a romance is all about.

gentle and predictable romance

I've never read a Harlequin Romance, but this is what I imagine one would read like. It's got over-the-top sappy soap opera scenes and emotional-love dialogue that mighta been more original when you were 12. The sex scenes are blurred in poetic obscurity and would probably clear a censor committee of 1934 Catholics. Much of the book took on a rather melancholy tone. And when the leads watched Somewhere In Time together... yeah, I got the title. (*sniff*) Okay, okay. I actually love that movie!!!! :P

And still. Underneath this kind of storytelling, I could see some very good writing. Like an early effort of a very promising writer. And the premise is top-notch interesting. It just played out way too slow and sappy for my tastes. However, the second half of the book got much better, and when it actually focused on the conflict, the book picked up and got much more engaging.

Angie Cantinnini and Meryl McClain meet in a creative writing class as sophomores at Lehigh University. Tall, blonde and feminine Meryl is a dormant lesbian and journalism major and dark-haired and Italian Angie (butch-side?) is an out lez who will go on to publish novels. The whole first half of the novel gives us a series of flashbacks into how their relationship began and ended while in college. The leads do not meet in the present until the second half of the book... which I wasn't really crazy about.

SPOILERS AHEAD... just some excess detail.

I thought the flashbacks were integrated fine but these two court each other like it's junior high. I really wasn't into this kind of innocence. Too simplistic. And lots of family coming out drama with all the stereotypical homophobia you can think up. But it gave us the needed background. Eleven years later, Angie is a best-selling author the public believes is a man. She's got a popular series with a leading character who is a man's man... her agent and publishing company convince her she must maintain a secret identity to stay credible. So she remains Zach England, reclusive author who no one has ever interviewed or met. And Meryl McClain is The New York Banner's new star reporter who is going to dissect this popular author and question "his" success.

Nothing too mysterious about what happens next. It all plays out predictably. They've been pining for each other 11 yrs and fate unites them while the angels sing. The thing is, I didn't find it very believable that the wealthy and brilliant and literate Meryl couldn't find Angie in those 11 yrs. Really? In this day and age? pfft. Man, don't insult my logic- I hate that. There is a layer of childhood abuse that comes into play giving the story a little more depth and lots of visits to a therapist. In fact, I think everyone who talks to these leads is a therapist, lol. But I was far more interested in the critic vs. writer conflict and wish that had been given more of a face-to-face focus... because when these two bump heads, it almost left sappy mode and actually got pretty interesting. Had the potential to be much more entertaining than it actually played out.

I didn't like that I couldn't really tell the characters apart. Meryl actually surprised me when she refers to herself as femme about 75% into the story. More femme imagery, please! You'd think I'd have an association with Meryl Streep... um, I guess without the "Streep" this name just made me picture an old man. I like to have more gender insight with my leads... I require a good yin/yang connection for maximum enjoyment. I kinda thought they both might be femmes at first. But Angie is the out lesbian of the two and is more confident. Yet Meryl's height threw me off. She's 5'10... now that is WAY tall and I don't know how that doesn't come into play in certain scenes... I kept wondering how tall Angie was and trying to visualize the difference when they interact. It's a weird quibble of mine, I guess... but when you get a million tall butches with shorter femmes shoved down your throat in this genre... you better make it clear when you go another direction. I get distracted by details (or lack thereof) because I'm a careful reader.

Loved the premise, but this is a very weak 2.5-3 star book for me (somewhat below average). I would recommend it over watching the Yule Log on cable. But I think she's got better stories to offer than this one.

You'll Keep Coming Back to This Book

Angie Cantinnini and Meryl McClain dated in college. Meryl's rich and powerful father broke them up by telling Meryl that if she continued to see Angie, he would ensure that Angie would lose her scholarship. Meryl complied with her father's wishes that also included that she marry the man of his choice. Like a dutiful daughter, she married the man her father chose. Her last sight of Angie was as she exited the church on the arm of her new husband. Angie was standing across the street watching, heartbroken.

Eleven years later, Angie is a successful author writing under a male pseudonym and living in Key West. Meryl is the book critic for a large New York City newspaper. She writes a not-so-flattering review of Angie's latest book, one that Angie agrees with. Angie recognizes Meryl's name on the review, but Meryl has no idea that Zach England is Angie. Angie makes no move to contact Meryl. While they haven't spoken in the ensuing years, neither has forgotten their first love.

When Meryl travels to Key West in search of the evasive Zach England, whom she now thinks is a woman, she runs into Angie. They rekindle their love affair. But Meryl catches Angie in a lie and storms out of Angie's life again. Angie tries to explain, but Meryl doesn't want to hear her excuses. Meryl doesn't return Angie's many calls.

Paynter's second book is well written, with an interesting setting, and characters any reader can care for. Her pacing keeps the story flowing. Even though the reader may know what's coming, there are enough twists and turns to keep the reader in the story until the end of the book.

There are some annoying things in this book. Paynter jumps between the past and the present throughout the first part of the book, which may annoy the reader. There are also several instances where the use of pronouns instead of names will have the reader stopping to figure out who is speaking.

Paynter has one previous book in a proposed series. Come Back to Me is, however, a stand alone romance so the reader doesn't need to read the author's first book to enjoy this one.

Not Very Erotic

Only mildly erotic. Most of the story concerns the gradual seduction of Sandy into wanting to submit to the owner of the Heart's Desire Agency. The basic appeal that he projects is: women like you don't want to think, they just want to accept whatever the man in their lifes tells them to do. Hardly erotic. Yes, all the women are more than willing to engage in sex, and do so. But since Michelson does not do a very good job of describing what is going on inside of the mind of any of them, the reader can not actually experience any sexual yearnings. Women cooing about how much they enjoy sex and giggling all the time does not make for a sexy story. Even the submissive part of a woman's mind is not really credibly revealed.

You'll love the characters in this book!

It was hard to put this book down! I love how this book unfolded. I found it easy to bond with these characters right away. Lee is vulnerable and a bit fragile and turns Callums world upside down. At first Callum isn't sure if he wants to take on a Sub but he finds himself falling in love with the beautiful, sweet Lee. When Lee is in danger Callum does all he can to save Lee and to help him heal physically and mentally. This is a beautiful love story. Sequel? I hope so! I would love to see more of Callum and Lee's life unfold! Very highly recommend! I will be reading this again!

Very Sweet Romance

This is a very sweet romance. You saw the BDSM tag and thought “Sweet? Seriously?” Well, yeah. Sure, it’s a BDSM story, but this is mostly about two men who come together under unusual circumstances and become a very sweet couple.

Callum is a Dom who is in the process of remodeling and reopening his BDSM club, Pure. When he meets Lee, it’s not exactly under the best of circumstances. Callum is forced to rescue Lee from a violent Dom, Haines. In very poor shape (Haines really did a number on him), Lee is taken by Callum to a private room in the club and doctored and cared for. But there’s more to it than adding a few bandages. Callum is completely taken by the sub-wannabe. I say ‘wannabe’ because while Lee may seem like a natural to Callum while he’s caring for him, he’s totally clueless in the BDSM lifestyle. There’s actually one part of the story where Lee asks “What’s a safe word?” Hmm… that’s BDSM 101.

Callum takes Lee to his home to continue to care for him and things heat up rather quickly. There are few problems, though. One, Lee is twenty-one, quite a bit younger than Callum (I can’t recall if his age is actually given in the book). Two, Callum may be a Dom, but he doesn’t do emotions. Sure, he takes care of and is very protective of his subs, but he doesn’t allow himself to get too close to them.

Then there is the matter of Haines. Haines is still in the background somewhere and he’s not too keen on Lee getting away from him. There are also Lee’s parents – his mother and his stepfather. The stepfather is a piece of work, to put it mildly. The mother? Let’s just say she’d never win a mother-of-the-year award. Neither parent is in the book much and when they were (toward the end), it was a bit rushed and I found myself a little lost over their role in the story. I’ll come back to that.

Callum’s “protection” quickly turns into a sexual relationship with the much younger man. I have to say that the sex scenes in this book are off the charts. There’s a bit of BDSM play before, during, and after the sex, but it would never be called hardcore. If you’re looking for hardcore BDSM, read another book.

Lee moves in with Callum and the relationship (not just the sex) happens very quickly. The big, bad Dominant turns to mush (so to speak) when “his boy” is anywhere around. There were a lot of “Aww…” moments.

With the remodeling of Pure comes decorating and everything else involved in opening a new place. Lee, a college drop-out (due to his family), is very knowledgeable in design, so Callum sets him up to pretty much take charge of it all. He also pushes him to enroll again at the local university. All of this (from meeting to what I just mentioned) literally happens in a matter of days.

There is also a bit of drama, though not overly done. And here lies the reason why this book is only getting 4 stars from me instead of 5. I adored the story, with the exception of a couple of things. Lee, while extremely naive, was adorable and I loved him from his introduction. I even loved Callum who was supposed to be this total bad-ass, but basically turned into a love struck man at the sight of Lee. These two guys together could only be called sweet. However, I found myself extremely confused in regards to the drama aspects of this book. First, there was Haines, who was not really explained. He’s this bad guy who wants Lee, but there’s not much of a background for him and I felt that his obsession with the other man was a bit out there considering that I wasn’t really told why he was so obsessed. Second, we have Lee’s mother and stepfather. While I could see where the author was going with both of them, I didn’t feel it. Lee tells his story to Callum early on and his family makes a quickie appearance later, but I was totally lost as far as they were concerned. The stepfather shows up at a specific time in the book (I won’t give spoilers) and there’s some talk between Callum and Lee’s mother, but that was it. There obviously was some behind-the-scenes drama with the parents, but what was it? It was alluded to, but nothing more. In other words, I feel that details should have been added to that particular section and to the Haines thing. I felt that the resolution of the story (Haines, the parents) was extremely rushed and could have benefited with about five or so more pages.

Overall, though my previous paragraph may make it seem otherwise, I loved this book. It was a very sweet romance between two very different men. I admit that Lee’s naivete got tiring and he had a major TSTL moment at one point, but I still found him to be adorable. Callum was charming in his own way. Had certain things been explained more and not rushed, this would have been an easy 5 stars for me. I loved the premise and the story as a whole. I am not a fan of rush, rush resolutions and endings. Unfortunately, those took away from the story for me. I thoroughly enjoyed everything else in Pure. There are a couple of other characters who were introduced that I hope will have their own story someday. If so, I definitely look forward to reading it. If you’re looking for something overly realistic, this really isn’t for you. The way things come together in regards to Lee and Callum is beyond unrealistic. Keep that in mind before downloading this particular book.

A very entertaining read. I look forward to more by this author.

This book really draws you in to the story and the characters tug at your heart. It was easy to read and there was a bit of angst during the plot. I loved Callum and Lee. They were a good fit and hot sex scenes. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it. I'll be reading this author again.

The Last Grizzly and other Southwestern Bear stories.

I could not put this book down!!! Wonderful stories about the Great Bear that roamed so much of the American West. This is really a history lesson about how our ancestors exterminated the Grizzly mainly due to not fully understanding this animal. Let this be a lesson for present and future generations on how to preserve the American Grizzly.

Novella - under 100 pages.
She's a bit bitchy, he's a bit rusty. She's claustrophobic and afraid of snow. He's part of the local volunteer Jeep rescue group. She's recently unemployed and flew into Georgia for a job interview. He worked in advertising in Atlanta. The characters are quite opposite of one another in nearly every way. They are passable, but to me they were not truly and wholly likable. I felt there was just a lack of depth to their characters that quite possibly could have been there if the story were longer. The interaction and conversations between Mya and Rick are, by turn, snippy and snarky then deeper and informative. The plot concept was great, but again, because this is such a short story, it felt a little thin and lacking in dimension and dynamics. It did flow very well and before you know it, you've reached the end. The conflict was never fully resolved, but rather talked out and made into a work-in-progress type compromise. Predictability was non-existent. The conclusion was abrupt, but it was solid.
There were a few noticed errors (misused words, not spelling errors) that made it through the final edit into print, but it wasn't anything too glaringly obvious and certainly not often enough to be off-putting.

This story did not flow well at all. Too many grammatical errors and spelling errors (Hello, editors!), and one certain event that never got explained (Why did Rick leave his office and go down the hall the day Mya began her new job? The author never clears that up.) The plot was a good one and this story could have been much better. The play on the Atlanta "snow storm" was creative, but little things prevented this from being a book I could not put down. Even the cabin on the front cover doesn't fit the description of the cabin in the story!

About the Author
Jess is a psedo-rockstar, a recovering alcoholic, and a believer in radical grace who lives her life in passionate pursuit of a freedom found in Christ that means she doesn't have to have it all together. She attends a radically different church where outcasts like herself find a home filled with wonderful people and open arms. There, she serves as leader for the women’s ministry. She also adamantly supports the Porcelain Doll’s ministry in Waco, Texas, that reaches out and seeks to show love to the women in strip clubs around the city. Jess is also the founder of Vagabond Ministries, a ministry group that travels around the state organizing small group retreats, camps, worship experiences, and outreach events. "My passion is simply for those who have never experienced true, one way, no expectations, love; to know that they are treasured beyond comprehension by a God who makes beautiful things from dust. Truth expressed with clarity, humor and insight

I received this book from Amazon about two hours ago. I started to peruse it, but ended up reading it from cover to cover in one setting. That's how much I enjoyed it! Not only does the author present a message of grace with clarity and insight, but she uses words and phrasing that I found myself reading several times over. For example: "a God who is recklessly inclusive and irresponsibly excessive in His love." And, "One sentence of law + an encyclopedia set of grace = Law." One more. "We are 100% right with God, fellowship, relationship, and any other ships." I couldn't help but thinking of many friends and acquaintances who need to hear the author's message. I will be ordering several copies to give away.

Refreshing!

Wow....this book has changed my life. Growing up in the church since I was little there are so many things ingrained in your memory about having to be perfect or that you have to do this or that in order to even be "worthy" to step foot in a church - never having the opportunity to hear from God due to my unworthiness.

Now I have grace, I am worthy, I can hear from God, I can talk to others about Him and lead them to Christ. I am still working on trying to set aside the things I learned growing up but it's a process. I find myself re-reading chapters to help me keep on the path of grace and have shown the book to others.

A very refreshing book and I am thankful a friend showed it to me first, now I am happy I have my own copy and am excited to see God working in my life!!

A great challenge to find out what you believe and why in your journey of life right where you are.
