From a Bond lover ... Terrific!

Let's just start by saying that we don't get just one clever hero, we get three! Three countries are represented each with their own great guy who will capture your attention expertly .. this is a real plus for a girl who loves all things Bond and Ian Fleming.
I love this concept of a super secret M17, highly evolved of the M15 and M16 yet secret and elite- who doesn't want to believe in these highly funded super secret spy organizations that are full of amazing technology, great gadgets and super trained good guys? I do, I want to believe!
I love the book, it's multi-layered, a lot is going on and it's exceptionally well written. Each character has a good development and nothing is left in a lingering sense, yet everything resolves nicely. There are a ton of surprises, and you won't be bored at all.
I was up way past lights out reading about the secret worlds of espionage and international government double dealings.
There are more in the series- I'm getting them.

Something Went Wrong, I was Supposed To Hate This Book

I primarily read paranormal novels, it is what I like, but every now and then you have to take a break from unreality to keep you sane. I choose this novel since from reading the teaser it showed promise to be a literary "palate cleanser" and not to actually be the addicting page turner it became for me.
Tales of MI7: The Kramski Case started out much as I expected with a killing and a story that grabbed your attention. I was expecting the mysterious MI6 type James Bond scenario but it quickly became a LOT more than that. Let us start with there is no "James Bond" character leaving ladies in a faint, there are three gentlemen that are quite good at their jobs from the three countries that are involved (UK, USA, Russia) and this team starts off after being assembled in a fashion that had me scratching my head quickly.
The plot became so multi-layered that it did require my attention (no scanning here) in a story of mystery, politics, tragedy, revenge, a bit of romance, grief and an excellent ending. This novel surprised me in several places which added to my enjoyment and as a reviewer I can tell you that describing a car chase in words that does NOT have you scanning ahead is a feat only excellent writers pull off.
There are too many characters to really go into depth about but by the end of the book you will love Marcie , trust me..
The title organization MI7 is a super secret UK spy organization and the very organizational structure was entertaining I found, the character of The Red Maiden was given a perfect role, not as aloof as the infamous "M" and yet not "one of the boys".
There are too many plots and surprises to go into, I suggest readers take a minute and read the teaser from the product page and realize that that may be one of the more boring parts of the book (and it is far from boring).
Bottom Line: 5 Stars for entertainment and originality, these days I seldom lose sleep over a book unless it is truly exceptional and I was up far past my usual bedtime to finish this story. It appears there are at least 2 other books in this series which I will purchase to read when I again tire of my paranormal readings .

Another Espionage Thriller Courtesy of Maestro JJ Ward

Think through the suspense espionage thrillers that remain like phantoms in the brain and likely they will have been conceived by a British Isles author. Stepping as far back as the Sherlock Holmes style as presented by Scottish author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and including the imagination of Ian Fleming's James Bond, we now add another master of the medium in J.J. Ward. Ward writes romantic fiction, espionage thrillers, philosophy and poetry. According to a brief bio, `he believes that commercial genres have warped people's thinking about fiction generally. "I think they exist so readers can be easily manipulated and milked, and they also - in some of their forms - perpetuate sexism. Any good story has elements of most, if not all, genres." He hopes men & women will read, and enjoy, what he has written in equal numbers. He lives in Sussex and is a secondary school teacher by profession, and runs the school Amnesty International club.' And as this prolific writer has stated, `I want to make romance attractive to men, and guns-`n-muscles attractive to women. And get us all talking to each other again. About books ... and life. `
A too long introduction perhaps, but when reviewing spy novels it is better to let the reader know whether or not the suspense is warranted and in the case of TALES OF MI7: THE KRAMSKI CASE It is. For those who may have forgotten, MI7, the British Military Intelligence Section 7 (now defunct), was a department of the British Directorate of Military Intelligence. Part of the War Office, MI7 was set up to work in the fields of propaganda and censorship. Ward moves his action into three countries where the paparazzi are being systematically assassinated. The perpetrator is the man of the title - Dmitri Vassyli Kramski, a retired SVR (Sluzhba Vneshney Razvedkifield) operative and former Kremlin protégé. Vladimir Putin is loathe for Russia to play step down on the international stage as even the most strident of his Communist predecessors. In 2010 therefore, East-West relations remain as tortuous as ever. Kramski's trail leads deep into London's émigré community, forcing his pursuers into conflict with an unknown organization bent on protecting him. Bit by bit, he begins to look less like a professional assassin and more like someone plotting to scupper the foundations of Western democracy itself. To compound matters, the Russians are as baffled by him as anyone. Espionage, murders, intrigue, and of course hot romance are billowing out of nearly every page of this very fast moving novel.
JJ Ward has polished his style well and knows when and how to turn up the heat, whether that source be linked to suspense or to passion! Grady Harp, July 14
