M/M Fantasy Romance

The Glass Prince is categorized as a Gay Romance, but this is really only a small part of what the story is. The novella is set in a world of fantasy and magic, where strong mages are considered to be celebrities.
The Glass prince is Daniel Everwood’s story, told in part by the omniscient narrator who sees the ‘now’, and Daniel’s childhood flashbacks. It is these which enable us to connect with him on an emotional level, helping us to understand his self-imposed isolation and loneliness. In hearing the story of Daniel’s glass heart, we appreciate his power, which he also exercises on several occasions. This is also the reason why he thinks he can get away with the fact that he has kidnapped Eren and held him captive in a glass prison.
Eren becomes Daniel’s object of obsession as soon as the mage discovers Eren is immune to magic. Daniel has spent years of his life wearing gloves, to protect others, yet when he touches Eren without a barrier between them, Eren remains unaffected. This thought excites Daniel, emotionally and sexually, making him seek Eren out.
Eren’s characters lacks the depth of Daniel’s, for obvious plot reasons and though I understood Daniel’s need to be physically near someone, I wanted Eren to charm me too. It is during Eren’s manipulation of Daniel, using his sexuality, that the fantasy and romance genres cross. I remained unconvinced by Eren’s feelings and confused about the ending I felt these characters deserved.
The Glass Prince is a quick read and Sandra Bard’s writing style is interesting, although I would have probably preferred a more convoluted version of the story, giving the characters more time to develop.
I received this as a complimentary copy, in exchange for an honest review.

A Bowl of Potato Chips

Sandra Bard is quickly becoming one of those authors I trust to produce an interesting story with well developed characters. And while I found myself devouring the pages, hungrily searching for something- anything- that possessed the same spark of heart seen in "Bound by Guilt" or the engaging "Rights of Inheritance", I was left wanting. "The Glass Prince", for me, was akin to potato chip consumption- you can eat and eat and never feel satisfied. So tasty, so addictive, but ultimately, leaving you desirous for more substantial fare.

The story stumbles, not over the writing or even the premise, which was quite imaginative, but because of the two leads- Daniel and Eren. I just couldn't connect with them beyond the superficial. I think, given more time, I would have felt more. Daniel was on the road to earning my sympathy and caring but it ended so hurriedly that I had barely felt the first twinges of pity.

Eren, for me, came across as more of a prop for Daniel's story and development than a full-fledged human with genuine emotions. Sure, I felt bad for the guy imprisoned in a glass fish bowl, and he expressed an array of feeling- worry over his mom and girlfriend, resentment for his father's abandonment, but it never really ventured into the thick of it. Really, who was Eren? What were his dreams? Hopes? Fears? (Well, besides being jailed by a magical ice man, that is).

I really don't think Daniel and Eren were inherently flawed characters, they just weren't given their proper due. They needed time, and 188, 189 pages (?) just didn't cut it. I didn't know them, not really, so I couldn't love them, and honestly, that's the crux of the problem-love. Their romance was anemic and underdeveloped, therefore unconvincing. Perhaps, if there was a sequel, they would have the opportunity to convince me otherwise, but how it ended wasn't in any way believable.

Despite all my negativity, I do think there was some strong and wonderful elements to "The Glass Prince". Daniel's childhood was engrossing...seriously though, should flashback stories steal the limelight? So good.

If it had kept going I could say I wholeheartedly loved this book. The first 3/4 were thoughtful, exploring and paced nicely but then it just raced to an end that shouldn't have come for many more chapters. I felt cheated. Daniel and Eren were cheated. Cheaters make me sad...

The other aspect I really enjoyed was their world in general- the mix of magic and modern times, mages and regular folk.

So, would I buy this again?

Interesting alternate reality m/m romance

I’m glad I picked this book off our available book list. At first I wasn’t sure how to take the magic-user piece, since it seemed like everyone was some sort of magic-user, and I was a little confused. But as I read further my questions were answered.

Daniel is a magic-user. We learn that his type of magic, involving glass has kept him from being able to touch another human being since he was twelve years old and he gained his powers. When he touches anyone, glass materializes under their skin causing severe cuts and pain. He is now in his thirties and a desperately lonely man living at the top of a glass tower that also houses his restaurant, one of the most expensive in the country.

On a whim, he attends a mall food court opening and while there an accidental spilling of a beverage leads his hand to come in contact with the server, Eren. Nothing happens. Eren is immune to Daniel’s powers! They part, but Daniel becomes obsessed with Eren and his ability to touch him.

One thing leads to another and Daniel ends up accidently hitting Eren and injuring him. He takes him home to his tower and once he is there, he decides to keep him for a while.

Eren is locked in a glass room at the top of a glass tower, kind of like being in a fairy tale but like the fairy tale princess he doesn’t want to be there. But what happens when he actually starts getting to know Daniel and learns the story of Daniel’s life? Will he escape? Will he be kept forever? Why hasn’t anyone come for him?

I really liked this story. It was just the right length, seeming neither hurried, nor drawn out. I recommend the book to anyone looking for a fairly quick read. I enjoyed it and I think you will as well.

Hot dog that was explosive. My heart was racing and once again this duo deliver something hot, erotic and full of love. It is more enticing when the people involved know each other or take the time to know each other. I loved Isaacs approach, though I think straight up "I want you and need you" would have worked. Great job ladies. I wish there were more of the Marines stories coming out.

These two ladies have really outdone themselves. Although this was a quick read, as a reader you don't feel cheated. This story was well written and the characters felt developed, with nothing lacking. The sex in this book was explosive! In a post Fifty Shades of Grey world, I loved the dominant edge that Isaac has. Without all the rope and bondage play Issac was a true dominant, possessive and unyielding. I loved the power he wielded over Mira, and all to her benefit I must add. Isaac was a man of his word. He definitely gave multiple, toe curling orgasms. Love, love, love this book. Well worth the money.

Not much is known about Elaine Hamilton other than she wrote a series of mysteries in the 1930's featuring Inspector Reynolds of Scotland Yard. The Westminster Mystery published in 1930 was the first of these. I enjoyed this book thoroughly. For awhile I thought I'd really dislike inspector Reynolds, but he kinda of grew on me. He was always so hard &to me annoying. Not at all like Inspector Pointer! I am so fond of that character that I was disgusting Ins. Reynolds. As I got into the book I was caught. It's a remarkable story lovely charities written really well. I get so wrapped up in the books I read it's like I'm actually living the with the characters. Sounds silly but that's how I read. Please enjoy, you won't be disappointed. Thanks,Gail

Good Story Line

The story line had several twists and turns that I did not predict coming. It took me a few pages of reading to get into the story, but when I did I found the characters most interesting through the author using imagery. The plot was suspenseful with having to wonder what comes next. This was my first reading of Inspector Reynolds, and I really did enjoy the author's writing method of using language for the reader to understand what is going on, as it helps take the reader into the story, making you picture what is going on.
